Welcome to Academic Seminar!
Academic Seminar is a course offered to help students in specific organizational and academic areas. The class is 35 minutes long and every second should (and MUST) be used wisely! Students are expected and encouraged to bring their assignments and projects from other classes with them to work on in this highly structured setting. Under no circumstances are students allowed to do NOTHING.
The course has been designed to give each student the maximum opportunity to help him/her become successful in their educational progress here at Red Bank Regional High School. Students have been identified for enrollment into the course based on his/her previous academic progress, grades, and test scores. This class is also open for students who have had academic/behavioral concerns in the past and is designed to provide them with extra time during the day to complete their homework in a structured environment, as well as focus on character development, study skills, and possible future career directions. Students are able to earn 5.0 elective credits each semester. A letter grade will be assigned each marking period.
Goals of the Class
1. Develop a positive attitude towards learning, which will lead to an increase in desire, effort and success.
2. Become better self-learners by focusing on organization, time-management, note-taking, reading comprehension, writing skills, math skills, test-taking and critical thinking skills.
3. Be able to identify their own decision-making patterns and skills and problem solving techniques and evaluate their effectiveness, while working on character development
4. Identify their strengths and begin to focus on post-secondary career opportunities.
